The new QuickBooks Online Pricing (Effective July/August 2025)
Intuit has announced another round of price increases. Many small business owners and bookkeepers are feeling the pinch. While no one LOVES paying more, this is a chance to reflect on what you’re really paying for.
This applies to QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Online Payroll subscriptions. New and existing client-billed subscriptions will increase July 1st. Existing accountant-billed subscriptions increase August 1st.
QuickBooks Online – You know, the software
- Simple Start: $35 → $38 per month
- Essentials: $65 → $75 per month
- Plus: $99 → $115 per month
- Advanced: $235 → $275 per month
QuickBooks Online Payroll – You guessed it, the payroll software
- Payroll Core: $50 → $50 per month. Price per employee: $6 →$6.50
- Payroll Premium: $85 → $88 per month. Price per employee: $9 → $10
- Payroll Elite: $130 → $134 per month. Price per employee: $11 → $12
The Bigger Picture: Price vs. Value
Price changes are frustrating. As small business owner’s we often struggle with pricing, and especially with increasing prices. There is anxiety and uncertainty surrounding the decision. We know we must keep reminding our customers: the value we bring justifies the cost.
Intuit is banking on AI and automation to make their platform more powerful. They’ve developed tools to handle repetitive tasks, simplify processes, and hopefully free up time for more strategic work.
Here’s my take, my unsolicited .02
AI can’t replace our expertise. Digital robots can’t have a conversation with a client or understand the nuance of complex transactions. (Not all Amazon purchases are office supplies.) The AI reminders and robotic emails undermine the client relationship. I firmly believe tools are helpful, but only if they work for you, not instead of you.
What’s Actually Useful (and What I’m Watching)
- AI Powered Automation: This could help with categorizations and flagging errors, but don’t expect it to solve every problem
- Collaboration Tools: This is where I’m cautiously optimistic. If QuickBooks can make communication between business owners and bookkeepers smoother, that’s a win. I’ll be testing this and sharing what I learn.
- Third-Party Apps: I’m skeptical. My past experience has not been great. I’ve avoided using third-party apps for a long time. I’ll need to test this too.
The Bottom Line for Small Business Owners
Price increases aren’t going away. Not for QuickBooks or any other service. We need to ask – Do these tools help me run my business better so my client’s business runs better? The answer should be yes. If the answer is no, Inuti needs your feedback.
